Glue-On Shoes
Whew, I'm super behind on updating our blog post!
In September, we put glue-on shoes on a client's barrel horse.
She was always shod on the front until her previous farrier quicked her by driving hot nails into the sensitive tissue of both front hooves.
This resulted in the horse going lame, plus an infection which led to an abscess blowing out in each front hoof. Her hooves cracked all the way down from where the abscesses blew out.
Our client spent several months trying everything she could to get her horse sound again, and took a break from racing her.
Justin tried re-shoeing the horse, but her hooves were now so damaged by the previous farrier's mistakes that she could not hold a shoe on.
So Justin decided a glue-on shoe would be best.
He was able to keep a regular shoe on one hoof, but the other was just far too weak to nail into. He used the same stuff that was used on Truman (Vettec Adhere) in black, to hold the shoe onto her hoof. Fortunately, this sweet mare was incredibly patient and was an absolute dream to work with!
Fortunately, the glue-on shoe worked and she was cleared to race again by both Justin and the client's preferred veterinarian.
She won money on her first race since Justin applied the glue-on shoes!
